President of the Nigeria Football Federation Pinnick Amaju has revealed how money has hindered the Super Eagles from doing well at the FIFA World Cup fiestas.

Amaju was contributing to the maiden World Cup seminar organised by The Sun newspaper in conjunction with the government of the Rivers State.

“Nigeria can win the Russia 2018 World Cup,” Amaju said. “We were shocked that the Super Eagles, rated fifth best in the world in 1994, has not been able to win the World Cup since then. In 2014 the Eagles had the opportunity to go beyond the second round. But I went to their hotel in Brazil and the players shared money all night after the revolt to boycott the Round of 16 match against France. We lost the match.”

Amaju revealed that the NFF had met with the players and iron out what they stand to get at every stage of the Mundial stressing that the FIFA $2.2m has been disbursed accordingly.

This revelation by Amaju counters reports that the FIFA grant was paid into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account.
