It was an occean of tears for Liverpool’s all over the world moments after the centre referee signalled the end of this year’s UEFA Champions League final at the magnificient Olimpiysky Stadium, Kiev. The players also took turns to weep like babies having lost a chance to clinch their sixth Champions League dream.
On the other camp, Real Madrid fans all over must have jubilated long into the night clicking glasses of assorted wines. The pots in Spain will also continue to boil for as long as they can savour the victory.
Inside the stadium was wild jubilation moments after Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos, held the trophy up in the air and Madrid are champions of Europe again as Gareth Bale was handed the Most Valuable Player of the night award.
Bale, characteristically became the most important player to the Spanish side even as Coach Zinedine Zidane had to fall back to his ingenuity to unlock the fortress of the losers with the coming in of Bale from the bench. The Welsh came in and turned the tide. His surreal performance can only point to one thing. His price tag would have gone up again.
No doubt that Bale is a fantastic player who has the attributes to cause devastation in an attacking area on the pitch. And he delivers on big stage.
In all, it was a great night of football and the more tactical side won. It was a night that must have whetted the appetite of football fans all over the world as prelude to the FIFA World Cup starting on June 14 in Russia.
Better luck for Liverpool next time
