As they jet out of the country for Saturday’s match in Mauritania the Flying Eagles squad have their eyes on the ball, and the carrot attached to it. They got a promise from Chris Giwa, president of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF that every goal scored will earn them N500,000! That is the NFF chief executive’s way of encouraging the boys who will be tackling their Mauritian counterparts in the final rounds of the qualifying series for the African under 20 tournament.
Giwa who said the amount will be in
addition to their match allowance said, “You have worked hard to come this far and I can only inspire and motivate you by promising a token of N. 5m for every goal you score, so the ball is now in your court to deliver”.
He said it is a personal decision to motivate them. Giwa was represented by Dele Ajayi, who led the delegation to Mauritania. They left the country at 8:45 Thursday morning for a match scheduled for 4:00 pm Nigerian time on Saturday.
