The 22-year-old Nigerian striker, Alex Iwobi, has signed a new long-term contract with the Arsenal Football Club keeping him at the Emirates Stadium until 2022
New coach, Unai Emery, disclosed that the maverick midfield star was important to his vision of rebuilding a rock solid Arsenal team after the departure of Frenchman Arsene Wenger who had held sway in the team for 22 years.
“I’m very pleased Alex has signed a new contract with us,” Umery said. “He is a great example of a player who can succeed from the Academy through hard work and I look forward to working with him and our other talented young players in the squad.”
Though details of the new contract have not been broken down in terms of pounds and dollars, it is generally believed that the offer is irresistible.
Iwobi scored in a penalty shootout against London rivals Chelsea on Wednesday and was impressive in the match.
Last season, the Nigerian international made 39 appearances for the first team and he had been linked with a move to Series A since the transfer window opened in July.
