The National Assembly is under siege as officers of the State Security Services have barricaded the entrance to the complex, turning back lawmakers and workers.
Some lawmakers were quoted by PREMIUM TIMES that the siege was to aid senators who want to “impeach Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.”
Members of the House of Representatives and staff of the National Assembly have been turned back.
According to the report, some 30 Senators had a meeting overnight with the director general of the SSS, Lawan Daura.
The SSS could not be reached for comments. The security agency has no known spokesperson.
