Pink Cadillac “Guard for Honour” for Aretha Franklin

Queen of Soul

BY TAIWO FAROTIMI

As the funeral of the lady of songs Aretha Franklin holds on Friday, residents in Detroit, Michigan have designed a grand farewell for her. A significant aspect of the funeral is an unusual “guard of honour” for the legendary soul singer, a pink Cadillac line of honour.
What this entails is that Pink Cadillacs will line the streets of Detroit as the hearse makes its way to the Greater Grace Temple, where the service will be held.
Crisette Ellis, wife of Bishop Charles Ellis 111, the officiating minister is organsing the tribute. The woman took the concept from the late Franklin’s 1985 song; “We goin’ ridin’ on the freeway of love in my pink Cadillac”.
So as a display of love to the deceased, dozens of owners of pink Cadillac have volunteered to line up the streets in a rare tribute to a notable artiste.
If the dead could see what happens at their funeral, she would be pleased, because that song won her her 12th Grammy Award.
