That was the question on the lips of kith and kin, as well as associates and friends of former Ogun State Governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, on Tuesday, as news broke that a drone hovering suspiciously over his expansive compound in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, had been brought down.
The security breach, according to a release by Osoba’s media aide, Hon. Adekunle Adeyemi, occurred late Tuesday afternoon as the former Governor, now a pillar of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was preparing for a strategic meeting ahead of the party’s presidential primary on Friday.
But no harm came to Osoba as a result of the incident which was speedily neutralised by his security details who brought down the unmanned aerial equipment. They also promptly arrested two young people, a man and a lady, suspected to be the operators.
Hon. Adeyemi, in the release, said that neither the young man nor his female accomplice could give any coherent explanation as to why they carried out the activity which the former governor believed to be illegal and highly suspicious surveillance of the sprawling compound.
The spokesperson recalled that Tuesday’s security on the property was not the first.
“Few years ago,” he recalled, “unknown people invaded part of the compound and took reasonable time to dig out buried armoured cable. This was done in (a) most professional manner.
“It would also be recalled that sometimes ago, two bungalows within the premises were vandalised by unknown hoodlums.
“Another breach was when insulting and abusive graffiti were written round the fence of Chief Osoba’s house, not too long ago.”
Adeyemi concluded his statement by disclosing that the two suspects had been handed over to one of the government security agencies for scrupulous investigation.
