ABIODUN NEJO

An Ekiti State High Court on Friday dismissed a motion filed by the local government chairmen in the state to restrain the governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, from dissolving the councils.

Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Chairman, Dapo Olagunju, had led the 16 council bosses to court, seeking an interlocutory injunction to stop Fayemi from sacking them.

But Justice Abiodun Adesodun, while dismissing the application, saying it is  pre-emptive, speculative and lacks merit.

Justice Adesodun, who said there was no compelling fact in the application to warrant the granting of the order, subsequently adjourned the substantive matter to October 22.

The council chairmen had, flied the suit against the backdrop of the impending change of government on Tuesday, October 16.

The LG bosses filed the case through their lawyer, Mr. Obafemi Adewale, while Mr. Tajudeen Akingbolu and Mr. Adeoye Aribasoye appeared for Fayemi.

Akingbolu and Aribasoye challenged the jurisdiction of the court to hear the application on grounds that the matter was speculative.
