The Nigerian military has averted what was have been another disastrous venture by the Boko Haram sect. Perhaps in an attempt to beat the military, operatives of the terror sect reportedly planted explosives on the Kawuri-Aileri road, in Borneo State. The terrorists apparently hoped that innocent travelers would drive into the trap. In an area where it was likely that many people would be in a vehicle traveling on the road or troops moving to safeguard the area, they probably believed that they would succeed in wrecking another damage that would have claimed many lives.
But the military was smarter and therefore detected the explosive devices , and went ahead to embark on a risky mission: they exhumed the devices and detonated them. By that action the military increased the confidence of people of the area that in spite of the challenges faced on the war front Nigerian troops are ready to stake their lives for the safety of the populace.
The Nigerian army on its Twitter handle reported the fear on Sunday January 13 that “At about 1:00 p.m today, 13th January, 2019; gallant troops of 222 Battalion Konduga, on clearance patrol with the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Scanning Team, operating along Konduga-Aulari Road, recovered IED planted by Boko Haram terrorists along Kawuri-Aulari Road. The IEDs were successfully detonated”.
