The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Monday, put an emphatic stamp on the election of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi as the validly elected Governor of Ekiti State.
In a unanimous verdict, the tribunal quashed the case brought by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the July 14, 2018 governorship poll, Professor Olusola Eleka, and declared Fayemi duly elected.
Fayemi contested the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and his victory was promptly challenged by Eleka, alleging series of election irregularities and malpractices.
But on Monday, the Ekiti State Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja knocked the bottom off that claim, declaring Fayemi as the validly elected Governor of the state.
