Former Senate Majority Leader Godswill Akpabio has expressed optimism that the Akwa Ibom Senatorial ticket which the Independent National Electoral Commission announced that he lost last Saturday is a mere mix up somewhere.
Akpabio was defeated by a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Christopher Stephen Ekpenyong, in the Akwa Ibom north senatorial district – Ekpeyong scored a total of 118,215 votes to beat Senator Akpabio of APC who scored 83,158 votes.
Akpabio was at the venue of the issuance of Certificate of Return to the President-Elect by INEC in Abuja on Wednesday where he said that his senatorial mandate is waiting for him.
“I won the election,” Akpabio said. “There is a temporary setback and wrong collations on the part of INEC. But there are processes to reclaim my mandate and I have started that.
“My mandate is waiting for me. I can’t fail; I can’t lose an election in this country. Not possible!”
Speaking on President Buhari’s re-election, the former Akwa Ibom State Executive Governor said he was impressed with the outcome and the commendations pouring in from the international observers who have all accepted that it was free, fair and credible.
He said that Nigerians should be eternally grateful to Buhari, a man who is not interested in stealing and wealth but in how to move Nigeria forward. He is interested in improving power, railway, roads, education and I can see foreign investment coming into Nigeria in droves this time.
“Above all, Buhari is the ambassador of anti-corruption in Africa, That is great,”
