The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Friday, dismissed the No Case motion filed by suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.
Chairman of the Tribunal, Danladi Umar while delivering ruling, held that the tribunal was not bound by technicalities but the interest of justice, stressing that it relied on the substance of the charge.
He stated further that the standard operational procedures that was relied upon by the defence counsel was full of contradictions. Umar stressed that due to the observed contradictions, the SOP was not adopted, because, according to him, it was authored for personal interest by past board members of the bureau.
The tribunal held that the evidence given by the prosecution witnesses and the exhibit, which was the statement admitting that Justice Onnoghen forgot to update his asset declaration form were enough to call upon the defendant to enter his defence.
Code of Conduct Tribunal has, therefore, ordered Justice Walter Onnoghen to enter his defence to clear his name.
