U-20 World Cup: Senegal knock out Flying Eagles

Senegal-2, Nigeria-1

Nigeria’s Under 20 football team, the Flying Eagles, were flat -footed and failed to fly in far away Poland, Monday night, as they lost 1-2 to their more enterprising African counterparts from Senegal.

It was a game in which the Nigerians put every foot wrong. They were easily dispossessed of the ball and were never creative in their approach to goal. The Flying Eagles’ undiscernable style of play made the Senegalese shine like a thousand stars.

Two first half goals by Amadou Sagna in the 36th minute and Ibrahima Niane’s strike in the added time gave the Senegalese a well deserved ticket to the quarter final stage.

Success Makanjuola’s lone goal, in the 50th minute, was not enough to rattle the Senegalese who finished at the top of Group A after two wins and a draw.

Nigeria had finished third in Group D and only qualified as one of the best four third place finishers in the six groups.

The seven times African champions did not  impress in Poland since their opening day 4-0 lashing of Qatar with Nigerians firmly believe that  the lustreless is the worst Flying Eagles ever assembled by Nigeria.

The Flying Eagles lost  0-2 to the U.S. and drew 1-1 with Ukraine in the group stage.
