Kehinde Fasoranti, one of the sons of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, Saturday, gave an account of how Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, his 58-year-old sister, was murdered, Friday morning, at a spot between Kajola and Ore in Ondo State, during an apparent kidnap attempt.
Kehinde spoke to journalists in Akure after retrieving his sister’s corpse from Ore.
Mrs. Olakunrin met her tragic end while returning to Lagos after a visit to her 93-year-old father who had lost a daughter not too long ago.
Kehinde, who fought back tears severally during the press briefing, said his sister may have survived the gun attack had help come early. But by the time help came, she had lost too much blood and gave up the ghost.
The police, he claimed, arrived the scene 30 minutes after the gunmen had committed the crime and disappeared into the bush.
Though it was not clear at press time who did it, fingers pointed in the direction of killer-herders who had laid siege to virtually every part of Nigeria as insecurity continues to heighten in the country.
“I just came back to Akure with my sister’s body tonight from Ore town,” a distraught Kehinde Fasoranti said. “She was on her way to Lagos after she left Baba’s (Pa Rebeun Fasoranti) house, Friday morning.
“Her vehicle was ambushed around Ore town. The gunmen started shooting at them at the Ore expressway and the driver had to quickly turn back. But unknown to him, there were some of them in the bush along the other side of the road.
“They shot at the tyres of the SUV she was travelling in along with other persons. There were five people in the car, a driver, herself, a cook and two of her nephews.
“Sadly, she was hit by a bullet and was rushed to a hospital but she lost too much blood and she died minutes after.
“By the time the police would respond, about 30 minutes later, the gunmen had gone back into the bush. They ran after hearing the sound of the patrol van. Nobody was kidnapped inside her own vehicle.
“Although, those who were wounded were rushed to a hospital and have been checked by doctors and they are fine.”
