1,513 Corps Members Pass Out in Delta, 13 To Repeat Service

By Nosa Akenzua, Asaba

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Delta State said, Wednesday, that 1,513 corps members in the Batch B, Stream 11 of the scheme have successfully completed their service year and were accordingly awarded certificates.

Thirteen others were, however, not so lucky. They were asked to repeat their service for sundry offences against the NYSC bylaws.

Delta State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Benjamin Ayodele Omotade, who confirmed this to journalists in Asaba,  said that out of the 1,513 corps members, three were awarded special certificates of commendation for outstanding performance.

Omotade further disclosed that 28 corps members would face periods of extension ranging from two weeks to two months for different offences committed during the service year.

‘We took the decision to punish erring corps members in accordance with the NYSC bylaws,”Omotade said. “They took the laws for granted and we have no choice than to implement the punishment so that others can learn.”

The NYSC Coordinator said that the decision to punish the erring corps members was based on the recommendation of the state NYSC disciplinary committee and advised Corps members who were issued certificates to take advantage of the skill acquisition experience they received during their service year for self employment and wealth creation.
