A video editor and cameraman with SaharaReporters, an online news portal, Victor Ogungbenro, was among the nine persons arrested by the police during Monday’s aborted RevolutionNow protest in Lagos.

Announcing the arrest,  SaharaReporters, said the journalist and the other eight were taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, possibly for interrogation.

An eyewitness and female colleague of Ogungbenro said the video editor was not allowed to identify himself before being dragged into a waiting Black Maria van.

The female journalist, who could not be named because of the sensitive nature of the story, said: “We kept telling them that he is with Sahara Reporters but instead that worsened the case and made them take him away.

“They did not allow him to identify himself. He was beaten and dragged on the floor while being taken away.”
