Former two-term Governor of Abia State, and Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has described the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari as a great development because it would reinvigorate Nigeria’s democracy.
In a statement which he personally signed, and released on Wednesday, Senator Kalu said the tribunal’s verdict was sound in law and it was “a re-affirmation of the popularity of the President among the people.”
The re-election of President Buhari, the former Governor further posited, provided another opportunity for Nigerians to compensate the President for “the excellent job he did during the first term.”
The Senate Chief Whip also applauded the judiciary for their unrelenting efforts and resolute determination in growing and sustaining Nigeria’s democracy even as he advised politicians to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship in their political pursuits for the sake of nation building.
Senator Kalu commended the five-man Presidential Election Tribunal for the landmark judgement, saying that it would enrich Nigeria’s jurisprudence. He then expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their firm confidence in President Buhari and his team.
“I join other Nigerians in celebrating the verdict of the tribunal,” Kalu said in the release. “President Buhari’s pedigree and goodwill will always speak for him.
“The President, as a strong advocate of democracy, provided a level playing field for candidates across political parties in the 2019 general election. His leadership style is highly commendable.”
Senator Kalu also has some words of advice for the opposition. Maintaining that, with Wednesday’s landmark judgement, Nigeria was the actual winner, he implored
the opposition and other stakeholders to join hands with President Buhari in his determined efforts to reposition Nigeria and take the country to the next level.
The former Governor, who praised Buhari’s comportment during and after the polls, urged the political class to embrace the tenets of democracy in their endeavours, noting that the unity of Nigeria remains non-negotiable.
Kalu also lauded Comrade Adams Oshiomole, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stakeholders and members of the APC, for their gargantuan efforts in securing victory for the party at all levels during the 2019 general elections.
He advised Nigerians to be calm, steadfast and law-abiding as Nigeria continue its march into prosperity, peace and progress.
