Dr. Okonjo-Iweala Loses Father as Brother Becomes New Igwe

Prof. Chukwuka Okonjo, Obi of Ogwashi Uku, Aniocha South L.G.A, Delta State, and father of Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is dead. He died in the United States, aged 91.

The late monarch, a professor of mathematics, ascended the throne of his ancestors in 2007.

Following the completion of traditional rites, a new monarch has been crowned.

Ifechukwude Chukuka Okonjo, brother to ex-Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has ascended the throne of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom.

By this appointment, he effectively becomes an Obi.

The World Bank senior staff made this known on Friday via her verified Twitter handle @NOIweala

She had tweeted: “It is with thanks to Almighty God that I announce two impactful events: the Ascension to the throne of the Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom of my brother, Obi Ifechukwude Chukuka Okonjo, upon the passing away of my father Obi (Professor) Chukuka Okonjo at the age of 91.”

The new monarch, Ifechukwude Chukuka Okonjo, is a financial management expert and CEO of Chevy Chase Consulting.
