Gov Bello Replaces Impeached Deputy with Running Mate, Onoja

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has picked his running mate in the November 16 gubernatorial election, Edward Onoja, as the new Deputy Governor after Simoen Achuba was impeached by the state’s House of Assembly on Friday. He will be sworn in today.

Achuba’s impeachment followed the report and recommendations of a seven-member Judicial Panel of Enquiry set up by the State Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah, to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct leveled against him.

The panel which was set up on August 26 with a 90-day duration within which to complete the assignment and submit its report, however, completed the job in 49 days.

Chairman of the panel, Mr. John Baiyeshea, in the company of the other members of the panel, submitted the report to the Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole on Friday.

While receiving the report, the Speaker, Matthew Kolawole, thanked the chief Judge of the state for the caliber of men he appointed as members of the panel.

He also thanked the members for the timely submission of the report and assured they would go through the report thoroughly and do justice
to its recommendations.

Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Ahmed Mohammad (APC- Ankpa I), noted that the exercise followed due process and thanked everyone for their contributions to the development of Kogi.
