The Federal Capital Territory (FTC) Police Command, Thursday, announced that it had arrested the alleged mastermind of the foiled bank robbery in the Mpape area of Abuja.

The Command said the suspect, Ernest Ewim, was smoked out of his hiding hole in the Katampe area of the federal

Ewin’s arrest came a week after the police frustrated the planned robbery which, according to the mastermind, targeted the bank’s ATM machine.

One of the suspects claimed that the botched robbery took six days to plan.

The arrest brings to five the number of suspects nabbed for their alleged involvement in the heist. The six suspect was killed in a shoot-out with security agents as the robbery got under way on Saturday, December 28, 2019.

A combined team of the Police, the Army and the Department of State Security (DSS) arrived at the crime scene just as the suspected robbers made their way into the bank.

They were paraded on Tuesday at the Headquarters of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.

According to a report monitored on Channels Television, one of the suspects, identified as Prince Obinna, who claimed to be a professional photographer, told journalists that Ewim brought him into the botched robbery.

He said that Ewim, a bartender at a local pub, told him to help recruit his friends for the operation.
