In times like these when the faith of many are waning as a result of biting economic traumas, when many are hungry and angry, and afraid because of growing insecurity, who do people turn to? ‘Government’, you would say, almost automatically. Reason? Because on government’s shoulders lies the responsibility of securing life and property. Of course, you would also mention God to whom people ultimately turn when all else fails.
However, Bimbo Manuel, one of Nigeria’s most acclaimed thespians, a king of the stage and theatre in his own right, will provide something to cheer about for a long time to come as he hits the stage with his latest play, ALHAJI, this Sunday, March 1, 2020.
Written and directed by Manuel, ALHAJI is produced by Bolanle Austen-Peters Productions and will premiere at the Terra Kulture Arena, in Victoria Island, Lagos. Thereafter, the play will run for the remaining Sundays in March.
Alhaji lures audiences to rib-cracking laughter as it examines the rarely discussed issues bordering on how various types of sexual dysfunctions affect men in marriage or relationships.
The play features stars like Monalisa Chinda-Coker, Hilda Dokubo, Bimbo Manuel, Funmi Awelewa, and Yinka Akanbi.
Acted by Yinka Alabi, ‘Alhaji’ is a sexually active polygamist who suddenly discovers that he has become numb sexually. And rather than discuss his problem with people who can help him, he keeps it to his chest. He refuses to tell anyone about it, not even to any of his wives due to pride. But in his desperate bid to find a solution, he gets caught in a web of intrigues that threatens his home and very existence.
