Another Tragedy Hits Nigeria’s Soccer as Rangers’ Player Perishes in Road Crash

Weeks after Nigerian football lost two players, Martins Chimeme of Nasarawa United and Tiamiyu Kazeem of Remo Stars, to death, the grim reaper sneaked into the House of Soccer and plucked yet another young star.

Ifeanyi George, a 26-year-old striker with the Enugu Rangers International Football Club, perished in an road crash along the Benin-Agbor Expressway on Sunday.

He was travelling to Lagos to spend the break declared by the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, in the wake of the corona virus or COVID-19 pandemic, when his car ran into a stationary articulated vehicle. He died on the spot.

They were two other persons in the car with George at the time of the accident. But there was no information on their fate at the time of filing this report.

Rangers broke the horrible news on its twitter handle on Sunday, giving no details.

“We lost Ifeanyi George this morning,” the club tweeted.

Rangers management had given a 10-day break for its players sequel to the suspension of the Nigeria Professional Football League due to the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world.
