COVID-19: Lagos May Extend Lockdown – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Saturday, hinted that his administration might consider extending the ongoing restrictions beyond the stipulated 14 days.

Sanwo-Olu said this in a media briefing on the updates of the COVID-19 on Saturday, stressing, however, that the decision would depend on the extant situation of things.

He also added that the state had discharged 24 patients who earlier tested positive to the novel coronavirus.

Recall that of the 209 cases reported, 109 were confirmed cases in Lagos state, making it the state with the highest number of reported cases.

The governor also promised residents that palliative measures would be put in place to ensure that the effects of the lockdown don’t hit hard.

He said, “If there’s a need to extend the lockdown, I will. We got one discharged patient today (recovered from the coronavirus). We are going to sit down with the committee that is working on the community markets and see if we can announce more next week.”

Quizzed on the alleged assault of residents by enforcement agents, Sanwo-Olu said, “There’s been no backlash on the handling of people by the security operatives so far. I always tell them to ‘wear a human face’.”

The 14-day lockdown was imposed by President Muhammadu Buhari on Ogun, Abuja and Lagos, as a vital measure to contain the spread of COVID-19.
