Olakunri’s Murder: Police Arrest, Parade Four Suspects

The police have announced the arrest of four persons suspected to be the killers of Mrs. Funke Olakunri, daughter of the leader of the Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

The suspects are 40 years old Lawal Mazaje from Felele area of Kogi State; 50 years old Adamu Adamu of Jada, Adamawa State; 26 years old Mohammed Usman from Illela, Sokoto State; and 25 years old Auwal Abubakar from Zamfara State.

It would be recalled that Olakunri was killed between Kajola and Ore along Ondo-Ore Road, Ondo State on July 13, 2019.

She was travelling in her car when she was killed.

In a statement on Thursday, the spokesman of the Police Force, Mr. Frank Mba, said: “The arrest of Abubakar led to the arrest of two other members of the gang, Mohammed Usman and Lawal Mazaje in Benin, Edo State, from whom a cache of ammunition was recovered and one other Adamu Adamu in Akure, Ondo State.

“Having established sufficient physical and forensic evidence linking the suspects to the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunri, the investigators, determined to clear all doubts relating to their findings on 8th April 2020, conducted an identification parade at the Federal SARS headquarters, Lagos which led to the positive and physical identification of Adamu, Mazaje and Usman by a survivor of the earlier crime.”

The suspects were said to have told the police how Olakunri was killed.

Mba disclosed that the men were arrested having been linked to a case of armed robbery and kidnapping in Ogun State.

The suspects were said to be members of an eight man gang that operate in the South West and Edo.

They were said to be behind a number of high profile armed robbery and kidnap cases in their operation base.
