25-Year-Old Rapes A Woman, 70, in Ogun

In the light of the recent rape cases in the country which has sparked a flurry of online protests across all social media platforms seeking justice for the victims, a twist comes to lightm as a 25-year-old man was caught for raping a 70-year-old woman in Ogun state.

Ogun state Police Command has accosted Wasiu Bankole for defiling a 70-year-old woman while in her room.

The suspect would have thought he had escaped this dastardly act, till he was arrested 24 hours after committing the vile offence, at Abule Lemode, Ijoko in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Thursday, she said, the suspect was arrested following a report filed by the victim at Agbado Division of Police station in Sango Ota.

Oyeyemi said, the victim forced his way into her room around 8pm on Tuesday and had his way while she was fast asleep.

The victim said she was saved by one of her neighbours who heard her cries and rushed into the room to hit the assailant with a stick on the back.

Oyeyemi said, “The victim stated further that it was one of her neighbours who heard her screaming that came to rescue her by using a stick to hit the suspect at his back. He jumped off her and ran away leaving his clothes, shoe and torch inside her room.

“Upon the report, the DPO Agbado Division SP Kuranga Yero dispatched his detectives to look for the suspect and bring him to justice.

“The detectives succeeded in getting him arrested 24 hours after and brought him to the station.”

After questioning, Oyeyemi said the victim confessed to the crime but said he was under the influence of alcohol.

The 70-year-old woman had since been taken to the hospital.
