It seems the face-off between the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, cannot wait to heat up as supporters of both candidates hijacked what was supposed to be a courtesy visit by Obaseki to the King of Benin, at King Square, popularly called Ring Road in Benin City on Saturday.

The fracas resulted in a shoot-out around the Palace and vandalisation of properties as motorists were not spared.

According to reports, pandemonium broke loose when Governor Godwin Obaseki paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin but some supporters of the APC hijacked the moment and were said to have allegedly chanted dirty lyrics at the governor and his entourage.

It didn’t take too long before the APC candidate, Ize-Iyamu came to pay obeisance also to the highly revered monarch as the gubernatorial elections draw close. This triggered the PDP youths who stormed the Palace and engaged the APC youths in fisticuffs.

Several people sustained injuries as motorists had to run away for their lives, however, these motorists didn’t get lucky as their cars were vandalised.

Vehicles emblazoned with both parties’ logos also were destroyed before the security operatives attached to the Palace and other teams of police attached to the convoy of the VIPs arrested the situation.
