The Bayelsa state governorship election tribunal sitting in Abuja has annulled the gubernatorial election of Duoye Diri, in Bayelsa state.
Earlier, a petition by the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) had asked the tribunal to nullify the election because it was removed from the November 16, 2019 governorship polls.
In his judgement on Monday, Justice Yunusa Musa, upheld the petition of ANDP after evidences proved too good, and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election in the state within 90 days.
Duoye Diri, the flagship bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was sworn in as governor after the Supreme Court sacked David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress Party (APC), barely 24 hours before his inauguration.
The highest court based its rulings on the premises that Lyon’s running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo presented forged certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
