Nigeria’s COVID-19 cases have exceeded 54,000 after 143 new infections were confirmed on Monday.
This was confirmed in a tweet on Monday via the Twitter handle of The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.
Earlier in the day, the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 had called for caution in the face of low number of cases recorded on recent days.
The new number of cases takes the total of recorded cases to 54,008.
Plateau state who has in recent days being the state with the highest number of daily cases, continues the trend with 35 infected persons, closely followed by Kaduna with 21 cases.
Lagos State had 19 fresh cases of the virus, FCT – 13, Ebonyi – 9, Adamawa – 7, Enugu – 7, Katsina – 7, Edo – 6 and Kwara – 5.
Three new persons were infected in Osun State, Anambra – 2, Kano – 2, Niger – 2, Ogun – 2, Benue – 1, Borno – 1 and Sokoto – 1.
Of the total number of cases, 41, 638 persons have been treated and discharged from several states in the country, after they had tested negative twice to the virus, with 1,013 deaths confirmed from the pandemic.
In the face of the declining numbers, the PTF chairman, Boss Mustapha expressed that the country still needed to be wary of the numbers.
He said, “The PTF still urges caution and vigilance on the declining numbers because the virus is still potent and very dangerous.”
The SGF urged states to expand their testing capacity.
