Emir of Zazzau: Beware of Fake News! I’ve Not Approved Any Successor-el-Rufai

By Damola Emmanuel
Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, moved swiftly Friday night to knock the bottom off media reports speculating that kingmakers had submitted three names to him for him to pick and approve one as the new Emir of Zazzau.
The reports named the alleged shortlisted candidates as including:
Alhaji Bashir Aminu, Iyan Zazzau, who reportedly scored 89 marks; Alhaji Muhammed Munnir Jafaru, Yariman Zazzau, who was said to have scored 87 marks; and Alhaji Aminu Shehu Idris, the Turakin Karamin Zazzau, who supposedly scored scored 53 marks.

The reports also added, perhaps for effect, that el-Rufa’i’s ally, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bammali, the Magajin Garin Zazzau, did not make the list.

But Governor el-Rufai quickly went to his twitter handle,@elrufai, to rubbish all that, saying his office was yet to receive any nomination list. He said the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs was still reviewing the 11 aspirants and the assessment of the kingmakers on them.

In the tweet titled: BEWARE OF FAKE NEWS!, the governor declared: “This @elrufai has not received anything. The Commissioner responsible for chieftaincy matters is reviewing the 11 aspirants and the assessment of all of them by the kingmakers. I will consider the recommendations then and select the next Emir IN Sha Allah.”

The Crest recalls that the incumbent Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, passed on last Sunday and was buried the same day.
