The attacks were another indication that hoodlums may have hijacked the #ENDSARS protests in some parts of the country.

In the tweet, the police said:

@policeNG regrettably confirm the unfortunate attacks on Police Facilities – Ugbekun Police Station, Oba Market Police Station, and Idogbo Police Post by persons posing as #ENDSARS protesters in Benin, Edo State, today, Monday, 19th October 2020.”

In a statement, the Force urged parents and guardians to warn their wards to stop the violence, assuring that it was doing all in its power to arrest the situation, protect the lives of innocent citizens and prevent further attacks on any other critical infrastructure in the state.

Like Mr. Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of the State said while commenting on the ugly situation, the Police also said it could not give any estimate of the damage unleashed by the hoodlums, but confirmed that the rampaging youths looted arms and ammunition from the armoury.

The statement also alleged that the thugs also set detained suspects free before razing some of the stations.

The Force pleaded with the #ENDSARS protesters to be patient and wait for the outcome of the reform process ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari, aimed at ensuring the security, safety and rights of all Nigerians.
