Oyo NLC Suspends Strike to Honour In-coming Gov Makinde

The Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday suspended its indefinite strike.

The union had last Friday declared an indefinite strike due to the failure of the outgoing governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi to pay salary and arrears of primary school teachers in the state.

NLC said it embarked on the strike in solidarity with the primary school teachers.

However, the union had on Monday said it has called off the strike.

NLC Chairman in the state, Comrade Bayo Titilola-Sodo while addressing journalists on Monday insisted that the strike was called off in order not to embarrass the incoming government of Engineer Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He maintained that the strike has been called off while workers are directed to resume immediately.

Titilola- Sodo noted that Makinde was a well-bred, well-nurtured person, noting that the labour believes that he will address all issues pertaining to the welfare of the workers.

He said, “In defence to this man of honor and to assure Engineer Seyi Makinde of the good intentions of Oyo State workers, the strike action is hereby suspended, and workers are hereby directed to resume immediately.”

He emphasised that some of the demand of the workers have been on the table of the outgoing government for the last one to two years, adding that workers in Oyo State had been tolerant thinking that the outgoing government would have a change of heart and grant their demands.
