Buhari Appoints Labour Leader, Issa Aremu, Director, NILS; Abubakar Fikpo as DG, NDE

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Comrade Issa Aremu, former Vice President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole,  as the Director of the National Institute for Labour Studies (NILS).

The President also approved the confirmation of Mallam Abubakar  Nuhu Fikpo as the substantive Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

Until Tuesday, when the appointment took effect, Mallam Fikpo had held the position in acting capacity.

Born January 8, 1961, Comrade Aremu is the general secretary of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NVTGTWN) and vice president of the IndustriALL Global Union.

Aremu is a member of the executive council of the Nigerian Labour Congress and had and served as the vice president of the congress during the presidency of Comrade Adam Oshiomhole.

A release signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said both appointments are for a period of four years and take effect from Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
