Buhari Greets Sam Omatseye at 60
President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday, congratulated the Chairman of the Editorial Board of The Nation Newspapers, Sam Omatseye, who turns 60, today, June 15, 2021.
Mallam Garba Shehu, Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said while Buhari felicitated and extended best wishes to Omatseye, he joined “members of the Fourth Estate of Realm and the literati in celebrating one of their own who has distinguished himself in his career and gained recognition nationally and internationally for diligence, excellence and professionalism.”
“As an advocate of good governance, free and independent press,” the statement continued, “the President commends Omatseye for contributing his quota to advancing the role of the media as a vital part of democracy in a heterogeneous society like Nigeria.
“The President, like many other lovers of good journalistic works, looks forward to reading more inspiring stories, ideas, perspectives and reliable information by Omatseye.
“President Buhari prays God Almighty to grant the celebrant more years of good health and fruitfulness.”
Born on June 15, 1961, Sam Oritsetimeyin Omatseye, hails from Delta State. A 2019 recipient of the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM), the literary icon and wordsmith attended Government College, Ughelli, (former Bendel State), Delta State, between 1973 and 1979 where he obtained his School West African School Certificate.
He proceeded to the Federal School Of Arts And Science, Victoria Island, Lagos for his higher school education. He studied History at the former University of Ile-Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, from 1980 to 1985 and obtained Bachelor Of Arts Degree.
