The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed fresh charges against two remaining aides of Yoruba Nation protagonist, Sunday Igboho, in a move to further detain the duo, Amudat Habibat Babatunde and Jamiu Noah Oyetunji, despite a court order that granted them bail.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had on August 4, 2021, granted bail to Babatude, Oyetunji and 10 others.
While the secret police released others, the duo are still being held despite fulfilling their bail conditions.
In a fresh suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, DSS alleged both Babatude and Oyetunji were stock piling arms to take over the South Western states in the country.
“That you Jamiu Noah OYETUNJI, Amudat Habibat BABATUNDE, adults with others at large, on or about the 1st day of July, 2021, at the residence of Sunday Adeniyi ADEYEMO (aka Sunday IGHOHO) located in Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court did had in your possession, without lawful authority one thousand, two hundred and ninety five (1295) live rounds of 7.62mm ammunitions and two hundred and twenty one (221) live rounds of 5.56mm ammunitions contrary to Section 1(3)(c)(v) of the Terrorism Prevention Act CAP 10, 2011 and punishable under Section 1(2) of the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) act 2013,” part of the new charges read.
“That you Amudat Habibat BABATUNDE (f) adult of Okeare area of Ibadan, Oyo State did used your Facebook account as a platform to promote terrorist activities contrary to Section 18(1 & 2) of the Cybercrimes Prohibition Prevention) Act, 2015.”
Reacting, Pelumi Olajengbesi, lawyer to the detainees described the new charges as “baseless, vexatious, shameful and without limbs.”
The detainees were arrested around 1am on July 1, 2021, when the secret police “raided” Igboho’s Ibadan residence in a Gestapo style, killing two other associates of the activist in a “gun duel.”
