By Presidential fiat, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, and members of the new board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, may have to wait a little more for their inauguration into the board which was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari on September 19, 2021.
This is because President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the postponement of the inauguration till further notice. The event would have taken place tomorrow, Wednesday, November 24, but for the presidential order.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, who made the announcement in a statement issued on Tuesday, gave no reason for the postponement. He only said a new date would be announced in due course.
His words: “President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the immediate suspension of the inauguration of the newly constituted Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) scheduled for Wednesday 24th November, 2021, until further notice.
“A new date for the inauguration of the Board will be announced in due course.
“We deeply regret inconveniences caused to members by this suspension, please.”
President Muhammadu Buhari had, on September 19 this year, approved the appointment of the Board and Management of the NNPC Limited , naming with Senator Ifeanyi Ararume as Chairman; the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr Mele Kyari, as Chief Executive Officer, and Umar I. Ajiya as the Chief Financial Officer.
Other members of the board include: Dr Tajudeen Umar (North East), Mrs. Lami O. Ahmed (North Central), Mallam Mohammed Lawal (North West), Senator Margaret Chuba Okadigbo (South East), Barrister Constance Harry Marshal (South South), and Chief Pius Akinyelure (South West).
