The strongman of Akwa Ibom politics Godswill Akpabio has been roundly beaten by Chris Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in last Saturday’s National Assembly election. The former Majority Leader in the Senate who later defected to the All Progressive Congress last year was unseated from the Senate with a wide margin.
Ekpenyong kicked out the ‘uncommon’ former governor with 136,373 votes, while Akpabio got 67,487 votes.
Ekpenyong will now represent Akwa Ibom north-west senatorial district.
