Tragedy! Kenyan Ambassador Slumps and Dies After Lunch at Abuja Home

Ambassador Wilfred Gisuka Machage

Tragedy hit Nigeria’s diplomatic community, Saturday, as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Wilfred Gisuka Machage, slumped and died in his residence in Abuja. He was aged 65.

The deceased envoy’s twin brother, Sospeter Magita, himself a former Kenya Ambassador to Russia, said Machage died shortly after having lunch.

“It is a very sad moment that I have, today, lost my best friend and confidant,” Magita said, saying his brother, Gisuka Machage, was in relatively good health.

The late envoy, Magata further revealed, died in the presence of his wife with whom he had been living in Nigeria since he began his tour of duty in Nigeria as his country’s High Commissioner.

The late Machage, agency report also revealed, was a former Senator and was appointed as ambassador by President Uhuru Kenyatta in January 2018.

He was first elected into the Kenyan Parliament in 2002, when he represented Kuria Constituency. He was re-elected in 2007 on a Democratic party ticket.

Machage also served as Migori County Senator from 2013-2017.

He had previously held the East African Community Affairs docket as Cabinet minister and assistant minister of Home Affairs in the office of the Vice President.
