The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife is reported to be under siege at present as hundreds of Ogboni confraternity, dressed in white apparel, have besieged the campus in protest over the failure of the Vice Chancellor selection committee to appoint an indigene of the ancient city as the new VC.
The protest against the choice of Simeon Bamire started since Thursday afternoon when the new VC was made public as a mild protest took place at the main gate of University following the announcement.
Some Ife indigenes, under the aegis of Ife town and gown, had requested that a qualified Indigene who The Crest scooped came a distant ninth should be appointed as Vice-Chancellor.
Immediately the announcement was made on Thursday, some persons invaded the campus gate, locked the entrance and created gridlock in and out of the campus.
One of the protesters, Bimbo Afolayan while addressing others at the gate said no one would be allowed into the campus Friday
The protest is still ongoing at the time of making this report.
