Former National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has chosen his 70th birthday celebration to announce his interest in the Edo North Senatorial seat in 2023.

The former Edo State governor said  he is vying for Edo North senatorial seat in the 2023 general election to give the people better representation and contribute to Nigeria’s development.

Oshiomhole, a two-term Edo State governor and a former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), spoke last night during his 70th birthday party at his Iyamho hometown in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state

The event was attended by many leaders of APC across the country.

Edo North senatorial district is currently being represented by APC’s Senator Francis Asekhame Alimikhena, who is seeking third term next year, while Edo South and Edo Central have Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDPs) senators.

Oshiomhole said he decided to celebrate his birthday with his people because he was born under a tree, experienced poverty in his early years but later got God’s mercy.

He said: “Many of my people asked me why I did not want to contest for the Senate. I said APC had a crisis, which must first be fixed. You cannot discuss what kind of baby you are going to have when you are not married. I said until APC is fixed, you cannot talk of contesting election, using the platform.

“I have been chairman of the party (APC). I know the danger we faced if we were not able to fix the party. This was completed and consummated on March 25, 2022. We have now elected a brand new National Working Committee (NWC) and a brand new National Executive Council (NEC) under the able leadership of a former governor, a former minister and a current senator, Adamu Abdulahi.

“We have done what we need to do. I am inspired by the position of the new leadership for us to do what we need to do to retain power in 2023. I am convinced that this is the time to proceed to the next step of the conversation, which is about who leads the great people of Edo North Senatorial District in the Senate by 2023.”
