‘They’ll use your head to break coconut,’ APC Chief warns Jonathan as Court rules He can run in 2023
By Progress Chukwu
The Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Friday, ruled that former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan can contest the 2023 presidential election, even as a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, warned him not to ruin his hard-earned reputation through “blind ambition”.
Giving the judgement, the Judge, Justice Isa Hamma Dashen, also held that Jonathan’s right to vie for the office of president again cannot be stopped by any retroactive law.
But in a chance meeting with The Crest in Abuja, Friday, an APC Chieftain, who pleaded anonymity for fear of reprisal, wondered: “Why is Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, a former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, allowing himself to be used so cheaply, so unintelligently?”
“He should know better,” he stated. “He ought to know that they only want to use his head to break the coconut. I sincerely hope he doesn’t live to regret this.”
How can the immediate past President of Nigeria leave his party, PDP, and cross to the APC without the world knowing about it? Even if he registered at his ward under the ocean and in the dead of the night, the world would still have known about it.

Also reacting to the judgement of the Federal High Court in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on Friday, another APC Chieftain insisted that Dr. Jonathan’s alleged membership of the APC only existed in the “infertile imagination of the purveyors of the warped opinion.”
He didn’t stop there. He asked: “How can the immediate past President of Nigeria leave his party, PDP, and cross to the APC without the world knowing about it? Even if he registered at his ward under the ocean and in the dead of the night, the world would still have known about it.”
Dr. Jonathan, who, only on Thursday, launched a vitriolic attack on the Electoral Act, has yet to react to the court judgement.
And despite his recent overtures to some power brokers in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, the former President has not openly declared his intention to run for President.

Recall that Jonathan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lost his re-election bid to then All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
Though not a card-carrying member of the APC, the former President recently appeared in the race when a group purported to have purchased APC presidential nomination forms for him.
However, his media aide later released a rebuttal where he said his boss was not aware that any group bought any nomination forms for him.
The former President has also not refuted claims of his membership of the APC.
