Buhari Swears in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as Acting CJN, Confers GCON on Tanko Muhammad

Following the resignation of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, on Monday, President Muhammadu Buhari, same day, swore in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Justice Ariwoola, who was the most senior Justice at the Supreme Court following Muhammad’s resignation,  of took the oath of office as the acting CJN inside the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.

He occupies the position in acting capacity pending confirmation as substantive CJN by the National Judicial Council, NJC..

Administering the oath of office to Justice Ariwoola,  62, President Muhammadu Buhari enjoined the new CJN to continue to exhibit the sterling qualities of those privileged to serve at the uppermost Temple of Justice.

While taking the judicial oath, the acting CJN pledged to be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Government of Nigeria, as well as defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

President Buhari eulogised the former CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad, and conferred the second highest national honour on him, the Grand Command of the Order of the Niger, GCON.
