Suspected terrorists on Tuesday night launched bomb attack on the Kuje Medium Custodial Centre in Abuja, a development which jolted residents of the territory.
Though information was still sketchy as of press time, it was gathered that the attackers had first bombed the facility at about 10:25pm and then followed with two other bomb attacks and sporadic shootings.
Calm was yet to be restored to the area as of 11:45pm on Tuesday even as officials were not immediately available for comments. But a resident in the Kuje area confirmed that there have been sporadic shootings in the area.
A resident of the area, told our correspondent that the shootings have been ongoing for the last 20 minutes.
He said the situation has caused panic in the area.
He said: “Currently in Kuje and the shooting has been going on for almost 20 minutes now. I can’t tell you what is happening whether it is a robbery or not but we have been hearing that gunshots repeatedly around the area the prison is located. We are all scared as I speak to you. ”
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Umar Abubakar asked our correspondent to call him back.
