BREAKING: Wild Jubilation in Osun As Tribunal Sacks Adeleke As Governor

There are wild jubilations in Oshogbo and other towns in Osun State as the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo on Friday sacked Governor Ademola Adeleke as the duly elected governor of the state.

The tribunal in a split document of two to one declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Adeleke and issue the same to former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola

The majority judgement which was read by the Chairman, Justice Tertse Kume said Oyetola scored the majority lawful votes of 314,931.

The Judge subsequently deducted the over-voting observed from the votes scored by the candidates and declared that Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress won the election, having polled 314, 921, while Adeleke’s score came down to 290, 266.

He directed INEC to withdraw Adeleke’s certificate of return and issue another one to Oyetola who won a majority of the lawful votes.

Meanwhile, a minority decision by one of the judges is being read as of the time of filing this report.

Adeleke, in his reaction, described the judgement as “a miscarriage of justice” adding that it is “an unfair interpretation against the will of majority of voters” insisting that he would appeal the judgment sacking him as governor of Osun state.

“I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done,” he added.

“Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate.”
