The monarch of the Kingdom of Morocco, King Mohammed VI has not only confirmed his country’s joint 2020 World Cup bid with Spain and Portugal, he also explained the uniqueness of the bid.

At the FIFA Congress in Kigali, Rwanda, where he was honoured along with Rwanda’s President Kagame by CAF, King Mohammed VI remarked that the triple nation joint bid was unprecedented as it is cross-continental, cross-cultural and multi-dimensional.

The monarch, whose country achieved the best ever result by an African team at the FIFA World Cup, told the FIFA assembly that the bid is “unprecedented in football history” as it will bring Africa and Europe together on one hand, the northern and southern Mediterranean on another hand, as well as the African, Arab and Euro-Mediterranean worlds.

“It will also bring out the best in all of us – in effect, a combination of genius, creativity, experience, and means.”
