The Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, NCAC, and President, Nigeria Golf Federation, NGF, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, has commended the Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for reaffirming the correct status and functionality of the Kano Golf Course.
The governors’ re-assurance came in the wake of viral reports on social media that his administration had revoked the certificate of occupancy of the facility.
But responding to the development via a press statement, the Kano State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Mallam Muhammad Garba, debunked online report, describing it as fake news designed by its purveyors to cause confusion.
Runsewe, in his capacity as  the President of the Nigeria Golf Federation, welcomed the reassurance by the Kano State Government, describing it as a cheering news to Nigeria’s golfing community.
Runsewe confessed that, of a truth, his Federation, and indeed, Nigeria’s golfing community was upset, and became somewhat apprehensive by the fake which tended to taint the strategic position of Kano Golf Course as one of the oldest in Nigeria and in West Africa.
He said that the Nigeria Golf Federation, the Nigerian golfers and, indeed, the golfing world, were excited by the swift rebuttal by the Kano State Government.
“On behalf of the golfing community in Nigeria,” Runsewe declared, “I salute the courage and statesmanship of His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, as exhibited by his bold decision on the matter.”
While stating that the Nigeria Golf Federation and the Nigerian golfing community were grateful to the governor, the NCAC Director assured the state government that golfers in Kano will continue to operate within the ambit of the law.
“As the President of the NGF, I will continue to ensure that all golf clubs in Nigeria play according to the laws of the land,” Runsewe promised the governor.  “The Federation will continue to cooperate withe the Kano State Government as we work together to reposition golf as a front-line game and as a serious economic venture that can contribute significantly to the nation’s GDP.”
