Silverbird Chairman, and former Senator of the Federal Republic, Ben Murray-Bruce has appraised the nationwide protests called by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, for Wednesday, August 2, 2023, to protest the untold hardship that Nigerian masses are facing as a result of the recent hikes in the pump price of fuel subsidy.
He submitted that unless the Tinubu Administration tackles the matter with tact, Nigeria may be playing with fire.
Though he didn’t condemn the protests out-rightly, he declared categorically that the “timing is wrong. Very wrong.”
Murray-Bruce, a former Director-General of thee Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, took to his Twitter handle, @benmurraybruce, to express his displeasure at the demonstrations which, he said, could have come at a better time than this when Nigeria, indeed, West Africa, “are facing an existential crisis in Niger Republic.“
“West Africa and especially Nigeria are facing an existential crisis in Niger Republic,” the former senator wrote. “This crisis needs the full and undivided attention of our government. We are playing with fire if we don’t approach this issue tactfully. Now is not the time for a nationwide protest. It can ignite a series of unfortunate contagious events in Nigeria that will make the disease the NLC is trying to cure ten times worse. I am not saying the NLC is wrong. I myself am a comrade. I employ over 1000 Nigerians. What I am saying is that the timing is wrong. Very wrong.”
