The Lagos State Police Command announced Sunday that it had arrested a 28-year-old man, Benjamin Ezeukwe, for allegedly masterminding an elaborate cement-price-slash scam in which hundreds of innocent Nigerians were fleeced of their hard-earned money.
A release by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, SP, on the force’s X handle, @LagosPoliceNG, disclosed that Benjamin was arrested on October 19, 2023, in the Rumuolumeni area of Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers State.
This, according to Hundeyin, followed weeks of intensive investigation by officers of Area A Command of the State Command.
At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of one Tecno phone, one IPhone, three SIM cards including that of 08039691980 which he reportedly used for the scam and a Toyota Avalon car, which investigation revealed to be a proceed of his crime.
The suspect, according to the police statement, had in September, 2023 created a bogus but convincing online advert purportedly by Dangote Cement, claiming a massive price slash. And numerous unsuspecting customers fell prey to the scam, losing millions of Naira to the suspect.
The police further informed that investigation has so far revealed that the suspect had perpetrated several other similar scams. He has since been arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.
