Days after the death, in a helicopter crash, of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings PLC, the Board of Directors has named a successor.
She is Ms. Bolaji Agbede. Her appointment as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of the company was announced on Monday, February 12, 2024.
Dr. Wigwe, 57, his wife-Chizoba, son-Chizi, and a former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Mr. Abimbola Ogunbanjo, perished in a helicopter crash near the California-Nevada border last Friday.
In a statement, the Board said Ms. Agbede’s appointment followed the company’s robust succession plans. The appointment is, however, contingent upon the approval of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
Until her appointment as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Access Holdings PLC, Agbede was the Company’s most senior founding Executive Director in charge of Business Support.
A 1990 graduate of Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Lagos, the Acting GCEO OF Access Holdings, holds a Master’s of Business Administration degree from Cranfield University, United Kingdom in 2002.
Like the late Herbert Wigwe, Agbede began her career in 1992 at Guaranty Trust Bank where she had a beautiful career before joining Access Holdings in 2003 as Assistant General Manager.
She has nearly three decades of professional experience cutting across banking and business consultancy services.
As stated, Ms. Agbede commenced her professional career in 1992 at Guaranty Trust Bank and served in various capacities within the Commercial Banking and Operations functions rising to the position of Manager in 2001.
She subsequently served as the Chief Executive Officer of JKG Limited, a business consulting outfit in 2003.
Ms. Agbede joined Access Bank Plc in 2003 as an Assistant General Manager and was responsible for managing the Bank’s portfolio of chemical trading companies.
She served as the Bank’s Head, Group Human Resources between 2010 and 2022. In the same 2022, she was appointed the Company’s founding Executive Director, Business Support in 2022.
Agbede is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management UK and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.
