Controversial crossdresser, Bobrisky (real name: Idris Okuneye) actually served his prison sentence inside the correctional facility but he and Abdulrasheed Maina, the jailed former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), enjoyed certain privileges facilitated by prison officials.
That is the report of the Federal Government investigative panel on the allegation that the popular cross dresser bought his way out of prison
The panel submitted its reports to the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in Abuja on Monday.
The Minister set up the panel three weeks ago to investigate the soaring allegation that Bobrisky didn’t spend his time in prison but paid some officials of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) to facilitate spending his term behind the facility.
The panel was headed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, with Dr Uju Agomoh, the Executive Director and founder of Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action, PRAWA, as Secretary.
On Monday, Agomoh submitted the summary of a 109-page report to the Minister, dismissing the allegation that Bobrisky spent his term outside the prison facility.
But the panel confirmed that prison officials gave Bobrisky and Abdulrasheed Maina certain preferential treatments.
Maina is serving an eight year-term for money laundering.
The panel frowned at that development and recommended appropriate sanctions against culpable officials.
Agomoh said there was no evidence submitted or adduced before his panel to support the accusation that Bobrisky stayed outside the prison during his sentence, which ran from April 12- August 5, 2024.
“The panel did not find any evidence thus far that suggested Mr. Okuneye slept outside the custodial center during the period of his imprisonment,” Agomoh maintained.
Agomoh stated categorically that Bobrisky served his six-month correctional sentence with the usual remission applicable to such cases.
