World acclaimed Afrobeats superstar, Rema, is set to cause another global sensation as he releases a new single, Bout U, that should send fans into nostalgia with a perfect blend of the ‘ancient’ and the modern.
The latest release is the Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter’s second in 2025 with his first, Baby (Is It a Crime), sitting pretty as the most streamed Nigerian song released in 2025.
Baby (Is It a Crime) broke the record for the second-biggest opening day ever for an African song.
In Bout U, Rema, according to a review by Pulse, evokes the timeless nostalgia of retro RnB of the early 2000s, tapping into the dulcet-layered harmonies and wistful guitar instrumentals popularized by Nigerian boy bands at the time.
According to Pulse, Rema, since his debut in 2019, has charted a steady course to world domination. What with his highly decorated discography has spawned a crop of global hits, including the biggest Afrobeats song of all time, Calm Down, featuring Selena Gomez.
Before then, his inaugural hit song Dumebi, had earned him a spot on Barack Obama’s summer playlist, a befitting prelude to 2023 when he became the highest charting Afrobeats artist in Billboard
Hot 100 history, Rema, a Guinness World Record Holder, is the first African artist to have an album hit a billion streams on Spotify.
In 2024, his sophomore album ‘HEIS’ earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Global Music Album.
Despite the several colourful feathers on his cap, Rema is not about to slow down. In 2025, he has maintained his cruising level with a very busy start in 2025, leading the 17th Headies nominations list with nine nods, including for Album of the Year and Artist of the Year awards.
